How the math works

• Stripe's standard US rate for online card payments is 2.9% + 30¢ per successful payment, with an extra 1% for cards issued outside the US (stripe.com/pricing, checked Oct 23, 2026)
• Fee = amount × rate + 30¢. You keep the amount minus the fee
• To keep a set amount after fees: charge (amount + 30¢) ÷ (1 − rate)
• Some businesses have custom Stripe pricing, and currency conversion or instant payouts cost extra, so check your own Stripe dashboard for your exact rate
• Before adding a surcharge to customers, check your state's rules and the card networks' rules
